DWR Ivey / Painter

This is going to be interesting . . . I hope.

I have been a graphic designer / illustrator my whole professional life. I feel fortunate to do something that I like. But as far back as I can remember i thought I would be a painter one day. That day never seemed to arrive due to other commitments and deadlines. As my children got grown and began families of their own and the demands of life began to ease up and with the thought of time running out. I decided at the age of 60 if I am going to paint I better get with it.
I paint almost everyday, sometimes for an hour and sometimes for hours. I committed to awake each morning at 4:50 AM and paint some, if only washing in a background.
The following pieces are a small sample of my journey.

Thanks for looking and especially sharing your time with me.

Contact me: dig@daveivey.com

The limited palette gave me great results and again I achieved the darks without using the color black.

8”x10” oil on linen

Home Page

When I began to get serious about painting I would look for hours at other artist work and ponder how they arrived at deciding on the subject they painted. I like still lifes and flowers but it’s not one of the things that has ever been at the top of my list.
This is from my daughter’s back yard in Fort Worth and when I saw it I knew this was a painting waiting to happen.
This small reproduction doesn’t do it justice but hopefully you will get a good idea.

12”x16” oil on linen

Home Page

She wanted a pig, a pet pig. I generally gave into my girls as much as my pocket book would allow most of the time, but a pig was out of the question. The family had cats, dogs, birds, fish, but no pigs. And, I knew if I gave into that request then my days were numbered. After the new wore off I would eventually have a 300 pound, squealing, grunting, rooting, craping hog that would make my life miserable. I wouldn’t be able to get rid of the bristly haired mammal with out being branded as the anti Christ by a house full of crying females.

6”x8” oil on linen - framed

Home Page
